This lightning protection module is designed for 1-wire bus systems with the ElabNET Professional bus master or for protecting the integrated 1-wire channels of the Timberwolf servers.
For 1-wire bus systems with other bus masters (e.g. Maxim DS9490R, Loxone 1-wire extension), we offer a separate protection module optimised for these bus masters that also contains a bus boost stage for increasing the range (this is included in the PBM or the Timberwolf servers mentioned).
Lightning and surge protection system certified according to DIN / IEC 61643, tested for use with the ElabNET Professional Busmaster PBM (as a stand-alone device or included in Timberwolf Server 350Q, 950Q and 960Q) as well as the integrated Busmaster in all versions of the 3500 series.
For use with other 1-Wire bus masters or with the Loxone 1-Wire Extension, we offer a separate BlitzART 1-Wire protection module optimised for this purpose.
Note on Loxone and other bus masters: For other 1-Wire bus masters such as Maxim DS9490R as well as Loxone 1-Wire Extension, we recommend the separately available 1-Wire BlitzART protection module, which in addition to a tighter current limit includes a band-pass filter and a BusBoost stage for improving the range on the 1-Wire bus.
The capacitive load of the data line of the 1-Wire bus (DATA) by this surge arrester is a few picofarads, which corresponds to the capacitive load of less than 1 m of bus line.
In the case of a longer bus (more than 50 m), we recommend installing another module in the middle of the bus. Connect the 1-Wire bus here only to the bus side of this module. You can either connect a branch with 1-Wire devices to the device side or leave this connection unused.
With very long 1-Wire buses, install another module every 50 to 100 m.
Most important recommended additional measure: Have internal lightning protection (type 1 and type 2 arresters) for power engineering networks installed on the low-voltage side.
Surge arrester type 2 for the Professional Busmaster (PBM) with three-stage protection system with disconnection of the current flow to the equipment side and additional functional stage for optimisation of the range.
This surge arrester can discharge 5,000 amps (8/20 µs, pulse category C2, fast rising edge). In addition, this protection system is equipped with the innovative ElabNET Current-Cut technology (self-resetting high-speed fuse 1µs), which provides additional protection even against low overvoltages (e.g. short-circuit with 24 V due to wiring error).
This BlitzART protection system is thus a combined protection system consisting of a very powerful type 2 surge arrester plus a very sensitive overcurrent protection (50 or 200 mA / 1 µs). The overcurrent protection switches off an overcurrent to the unit side within one microsecond. The reset after the overcurrent event takes place automatically within one millisecond.
This short-circuits overvoltages, compensates for potential differences and additionally separates remaining overcurrents. Due to this special combination, the achievable device protection is better than conventional protection systems without this third protection level.
This 1-Wire surge arrester of category C2 / Type 2 according to IEC 61643-21 is intended for installation in distribution cabinets and junction boxes in dry residential and business premises, control cabinets in industry and automation systems. It serves as a surge arrester between electrical conductors of the 1-Wire bus system and the equipotential bonding rail in case of direct and near lightning strikes as well as overvoltages from switching operations and discharges the partial lightning current into the earthing system. We recommend the combination with a surge arrester for power networks Type 1 and Type 2 as well as the use of several of these 1-Wire BlitzART modules in the 1-Wire system.
This module is designed for 1-Wire bus systems with the ElabNET Professional Busmaster or with the Timberwolf Server of the models 350Q, 950Q, 960Q as well as 3500 (all variants).
Note: This module has three protective effects, which differ depending on the connection side. The power stage acts on the bus side of the module and can compensate or discharge 5,000 amperes. Both connection sides are connected via a three-pole overcurrent protection stage. The downstream fast fine stage initially acts on both connection sides at the beginning of an overvoltage event; after activation of the overcurrent protection stage, the current flow between both sides is limited, so that the voltage compensation of the fine stage only has an effect on the device side (as long as the event lasts) and reduces the terminal voltage there again.
Note: For 1-Wire bus systems with other bus masters (e.g. Maxim DS9490R, Loxone 1-Wire Extension) we offer an optimised protection module with included BusBoost and bandpass for optimum range.
Notes on using other crimping cable lugs: Instead of the crimping cable lug supplied, you can also use other crimping cable lugs if you want to connect with a larger cross-section or want to use a solid conductor. Pay attention to the hole for M3. Crimping cable lugs with 4 and 6 mm² are available commercially for this purpose. Please ensure that you use the correct crimping pliers for the respective crimping cable lug.
