With the Timberwolf server you can save the purchase of an IP interface. 25 simultaneous tunnels are sufficient for any application. A default tunnel is available for commissioning, so that you can start with the ETS after connecting.
Depending on the available memory capacity, between 100 million and 100 billion KNX telegrams are recorded in a ring buffer.
In addition to displaying in real time, the included KNX bus monitor can also filter from the log as desired according to date, time, group addresses, physical addresses, etc. Several filters can be combined.
Preconfigured calls are available for analysis with Grafana, which can be adapted as desired. Own applications can access this log via SQL.
Further information & links
Advantage for you:This log activates automatically, the ring buffer is managed automatically, you don't have to set anything up.
The Timberwolf server supports three protocol versions:
The built-in RS-485 interface can be used for Modbus RTU. For additional Modbus RTU bus systems, the Dual Modbus Extension is available. Multiple extensions are possible.
No limitation of data points. All binary data formats are supported. Values can be checked against limits and converted with free formulas, as well as converted to other data types.
Further Information & Links
Advantage for you
No limits, three protocols, any instances. Use of predefined device profiles allows integration of a Modbus device in minutes (see the video).
MQTT in the Timberwolf server enables - similar to KNX - event-based symmetrical communication with high transmission performance (via IP networks). This also enables the coupling of thousands of Timberwolf servers with each other, even encrypted.
Any number of MQTT objects can be created within the framework of the system resources and the available bandwidth and linked internally with any other object of other technologies. There are no artificial restrictions.
All common data formats are supported. A data monitor, histograms and error displays support the setup of new MQTT devices and troubleshooting.

Advantage for you
HTTP-/REST-API is widely used and can be used to control a large number of devices and systems. The setup via graphical wizards is particularly easy.
With one million satisfied customers, ekey is Europe's No. 1 for fingerprint access solutions. The user should only need his finger to gain access. RFID or numeric codes (ekey Classic only) can also be used. With the Timberwolf server, you can also combine these three methods to gain access.
Features
Advantage for you
The intelligent use of a building starts at the front door. Open your doors with your finger. By connecting ekey with the Timberwolf server, your smart home knows when which person opens which door with which finger (or code or RFID). How would it be if the shutters then went up and your favourite music played when you came home?
Control your smart building via the visualisations and the logic engine of the Timberwolf server and analyse energy consumption and the temperature curve of your heating to save intelligently.
You can connect all inputs and outputs and every data point to the visualisation and record the course of values. For the graphical analysis you use the web app and the "one-click calls" for which you do not need any previous knowledge. If you are an expert, you can also access it from your own applications via SQL.
Timberwolf servers are expandable by the user, allowing other solutions (e.g. OpenHAB, Node Red, io:Broker, etc.) to run as containers on the Timberwolf server.
CometVisu is a real-time visualisation and is available in the Timberwolf Server as an APP.
Features
Advantage for you
The CometVisu is a powerful visualisation that works on any end device with a current browser. This means that even a simple Android tablet can be used to display the visualisation.
Another technical subsystem is the Timberwolf Server's logic engine for logical links, controls and calculations. This can be linked to ALL data points of any supported bus system and protocol, as well as those of the internal modules (e.g. time series).
Features
Further information & links
Advantage for you
Everything can be linked, no limitations. Despite the many powerful functions, the logic engine of the Timberwolf server is easy to use. All settings can be adjusted during operation and are activated immediately. No restarting is necessary. The debug mode allows simulation and recording of all levels for months.
Energy saving, monitoring and troubleshooting require continuous recording of important data of technical equipment, all temperature and environmental values as well as status and switching information of the automation.
You can record every data point of the supported bus systems and protocols with a click of the mouse.
Evaluation with the data monitors of the Web APP, with Grafana, with CometVisu as well as via SQL from your own applications.
Advantage for you
You can easily set up the recording of individual data points in time series. Just click on the corresponding object in the Web APP and add a new time series as a target. The recording starts immediately, no restart is required.
The server uses the Influx database for recording time series and logs:
Application area
The InfluxDB is characterised by a high - loss-free - compression of the data records at high performance, so that billions of data records can be recorded in the server.
Advantage for you
This database is pre-installed and supported by ElabNET updates. The data is also part of the Timberwolf backup. You can use it to record every data point in the Timberwolf server, this requires only a few clicks.
Grafana is an application for analysing data records. This visualisation can be configured with a graphical editor. Several analyses can be combined in dashboards and these can be integrated into other visualisations.
Area of application
Advantage for you
Grafana is pre-installed and is maintained via Timberwolf updates. In the web APP of the Timberwolf server you will find 1-click calls for all time series, KNX group addresses, interface statistics and for logic analysis. You do not need any previous knowledge.
You want more? You can easily extend the Timberwolf server. Docker and the graphical assistant "portainer.io" are pre-installed ex works. Both support you in building and managing your own containers.
We make it even easier for you with "Timberwolf APPs", which are preconfigured applications that can be installed at the touch of a button.
Depending on the model, the Timberwolf Server offers considerably more resources than are needed for your own functions. Therefore, you can extend the server with your own applications. We provide frequently used applications as "Timberwolf APP" so that you can start them easily. The scope is constantly being extended.
Advantage for you
The Timberwolf server can do much more, because you can also use the Timberwolf server for other software. The configuration of the APPs are included in the Timberwolf server backup. This makes a recovery very easy.
With the Timberwolf Server you can access your installation remotely in an encrypted and securely authenticated manner. The options shown below are available for this purpose.
The Timberwolf server is equipped with a hardened OpenVPN server, which allows any number of VPN connections to be accepted simultaneously. This enables remote access to the server and - with suitable settings - also to the local network.
KNX programming with the ETS is also possible in encrypted form via this customer VPN.
Advantage for you
Everything is ready installed. You can download the settings for the VPN clients ready parameterised and use them with any OpenVPN client (available for all operating systems).
In addition, Timberwolf servers are equipped with a reverse proxy. This enables secure access to resources that are actually unprotected (e.g. web pages of local heating controls that do not have authentication / encryption). The reverse proxy acts as a "reverse firewall" between the user's browser and the previously unprotected resources in the network (or local Docker containers) and takes over authentication and encryption.
Advantage for you
The reverse proxy is also installed ex works, making it easy to protect config pages of other devices in the network or containers. The setup is done via the web APP.
The Timberwolf Server supports world coupling for all supported bus systems and protocols (as well as logic, time series, etc.) This means that any data point can be linked to any number of other Timberwolf Servers and their data points.
This coupling is transparent and behaves in the respective server as if the coupled data points were their own local data points. With sufficient bandwidth, practically no delays are noticeable. Setting up such a coupling takes only a few minutes.
Area of application
Further information & links
Advantage for you
Everything is ready installed. Setup is simple and scalable as required.
The Elab ID is an additional login account that CAN be created in the Timberwolf Cloud. The Elab ID and the Cloud are NOT required to operate the Timberwolf Servers.
Area of use
The use of the Elab ID must be enabled in the privacy settings.
Advantage for you
If you wish, you can log in to several Timberwolf servers with the same account and you can use a log-in account independent of the server for the authentication of third-party cloud services (without revealing the connection to your local Timberwolf server).
Setup and administration is designed to be as simple as possible. Virtually all settings (exception: KNX objects via ETS) are administered using the Timberwolf Server web APP.
The web APP works on all end devices with a current browser and installs itself automatically with the first connection. Communication is efficient with http/2 and is encrypted with SSL/TLS.
All changes to the configuration are activated immediately. You do not have to transfer anything or restart anything.
Advantage for you
For administration, you simply use the terminal device you already own. You do not have to worry about an operating system or architecture. You never see a text console and do not need to have any system knowledge. Operation is as simple as that of a modern smartphone.
The Web-APP can be operated in German, English and French. Switching is done via the flag symbol without restarting.
The server can be operated in parallel via simultaneously opened web APPs, each in a different language.
Advantage for you
All languages are pre-installed, you only have to click on your respective language in the web APP.
The modern user interface makes it easy to use. Set-up is done via graphical wizards, superimposed info texts allow you to get started quickly. The help system connects you to the right article in the wiki at the touch of a button.
Advantage for you
You do not have to enter cryptic commands on a console. A graphical user interface is available for all functions, making every step as simple as possible. Warnings and errors are automatically displayed. Many feedbacks and displays give you a clear picture of the status of the server and the communication with the connected devices.
Simple operation also means as automatic as possible. All extensions and our 1-Wire devices are automatically recognised and integrated.
Advantage for you
Plug in and use - it couldn't be simpler.
Firmware updates and upgrades are easy to install: just press the "Update" button, a restart is almost never necessary.

The system software of the Timberwolf server includes a module for backup and data restore. Simply request a backup and the backup will be written to the specified destination. Restoring is also easy, select backup and wait a few minutes.
Advantage for you
Everything is prepared, you don't have to worry about your data and settings, just make a backup after major changes. You can also download the backup from the server and keep it.
You can reset the Timberwolf server to the state it was in when it left the factory, replacing the entire (encrypted) system partition.
Advantage for you
Easy restart of the system. Ideal for training courses when you want to restart or when passing on the server.
Date and time are important values, after all the Timberwolf server records a lot of data and logics with timers are based on this. The server is already synchronised with the correct time at the factory and contains a buffered real-time clock. For optimal accuracy, regular synchronisation is recommended, this is possible in the following ways:
Variants of synchronisation:

In addition to the connection of MQTT devices and systems, MQTT is particularly suitable for the coupling of servers and locations worldwide.</b></span></p> <p>The Timberwolf Server enables the easy use of MQTT. Both in the integration of systems such as wall charging stations, Tasmota based devices, Shelly devices - and in networking. Any data point of bus systems and protocols like KNX, Modbus, Rest-API, 1-Wire, DMX, time series, logic as well as from any other implemented subsystem can be connected to the MQTT data points.</p> <p>The performance of MQTT knows almost no limitations. The number of participants is arbitrary, the IP protocol can use the whole bandwidth, working even over bad lines and with ONE message up to 260 MByte can be transferred. MQTT brokers like HiveMQ achieve a throughput of up to 3 billion messages per hour with 10 million MQTT clients.</p> <p>MQTT is thus particularly suitable for plant coupling. You can couple a practically unlimited number of sites with the Timberwolf Server, connection to WAN / Internet provided. The Timberwolf Server is not limited in terms of data points.</p> <p><span style="color:#0D47A1"><b>In this video we explain the MQTT protocol and show the system coupling of three sites with KNX.</b></span></p> <p> </p> <div class="yt-container"><iframe allowfullscreen="" class="yt-video" frameborder="0" scrolling="no" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/WuEUNMC6tPQ?rel=0&controls=1&cc_load_policy=1&showinfo=1;rel=0"></iframe></div> <p> </p>
<h2><span style="font-size:24px;"><span style="color:#555555;">SCOPE OF DELIVERY</span></span></h2> <p>All Timberwolf 3500 series servers are equipped with the same interfaces and have the same processor performance. Differences between the models exist with regard to RAM (in terms of volume) and mass storage (SSD, in terms of volume, technology and endurance).</p> <h2><span style="font-size:18px;"><span style="color:#0D47A1;">TWS 3500L - 8 GB RAM & 32 GB eMMC SSD - Art-No: 933</span></span></h2> <p>The Timberwolf Server 3500L has 8 GB RAM and an eMMC SSD with 32 GB. About 13 GB of this are occupied at delivery. You can thus use 19 GB of the SSD freely. This is sufficient for recording about five billion data records by bus logging and time series. This memory configuration is sufficient for intensive use of the firmware's performance features and for installing your own software in Docker containers.</p> <p>Our recommendation: Always operate Timberwolf servers with their own 12 / 24V power supply, which is not used to supply other systems (avoid ground loops). Please protect the used interfaces with BlitzART surge arresters and use the USB Backup Stick for data backup. <h1><span style="font-size:24px;"><span style="color:#555555;">RECOMMENDED ACCESSORIES</span></span></h1> <p>We recommend the following accessories for the Timberwolf 3500 Series Servers.</p> <h2><span style="font-size:18px;"><span style="color:#0D47A1;">LIGHTNING, OVERVOLTAGE AND OVERCURRENT PROTECTION</span></span></h2> <p>The connections of the Timberwolf server are protected against short-time overvoltage events by e.g. touch and induction according to the CE standards. For comprehensive protection against incorrect connection and miswiring, as well as protection against the consequences of close or direct lightning strikes, we recommend protecting all interfaces with the BlitzART surge arresters, which - depending on the version - are also equipped with further protective mechanisms. These protection modules cost on average about 2% of the system price, but protect 98% of your system, we think this is a good investment.</p> <p><u>We recommend for the protection of your equipment:</u></p> <ul> <li><strong>KNX protection modules:</strong> At each KNX power supply and directly at the server, as well as at the transition of lightning protection zones (e.g. at the transition from the main distribution to the sub-distributions). Depending on the size of the installation, you should install five to ten of these modules to protect the devices and also the wiring in your KNX system.<br /> <a href="https://shop.elabnet.de/en/blitzart/surge-protection_874_2403" target="_blank">Art: 489: Surge arrester BlitzART for KNX-TP as well as KNX auxiliary voltage</a><br /> </li> <li><strong>1-Wire PBM protection module:</strong> Je install one protection module at a time directly in front of the 1-Wire bus connection of the Timberwolf server (or in front of each channel of additional bus masters). For 1-Wire buses longer than 50 meters, we recommend another module in the middle of the installation (e.g. in a sub-distribution), and for even longer bus wiring, one additional module every 50 to 100 m and one module at the end of the bus line. For the 1-Wire connection of the Timberwolf server please use the 1-Wire protection module optimized for PBM<br /> <a href="https://shop.elabnet.de/en/blitzart/surge-protection/surge-arrester-for-1-wire-professional-bus-master-5000-amps-type-2_876_2409" target="_blank">Art: 451: Surge arrester BlitzART for 1-Wire</a><br /> </li> <li><strong>RS-485 protection module:</strong> Install one protection module directly in front of each RS-485 bus connection of the Timberwolf Server (or each used channel of the Modbus Extension). For RS-485 buses longer than 50 meters we recommend another module in the middle of the installation (e.g. in a sub-distribution), for even longer bus wiring about every 50 to 100 m another module plus one module at the end of the bus line or in front of all valuable RS-485 devices.<br /> <a href="https://shop.elabnet.de/en/blitzart/surge-protection/surge-arrester-for-rs-485-rs-422-5000-ampere-type-2_879_2418" target="_blank">Art: 454: Surge arrester BlitzART for RS-485</a><br /> </li> <li><strong>12 / 24 V protection module:</strong> A protection module directly before the power supply connection directly at the Timberwolf server. To do this, use the KNX protection module (and use the supplied ge/ws terminal set).<br /> <a href="https://shop.elabnet.de/en/blitzart/surge-protection_874_2403" target="_blank">Art: 489: Surge arrester BlitzART for KNX auxiliary voltage for use for supply voltage 12 / 24</a></li></ul> <h2><span style="font-size:18px;"><span style="color:#0D47A1;">12 V POWER SUPPLY FOR TIMBERWOLF SERVER AND PROFESSIONAL BUSMASTER (TOP HAT RAIL MOUNTING)</span></span></h2> <p>Power supply 12 V / 15 W with wide input voltage range and small size 1 TE for the supply of Timberwolf Server 3xx / 9xx / 3500 as well as Professional Busmaster.</p> <p><u>We recommend for optimal power supply (please combine with lightning protection 12/24 V):</u></p> <ul> <li><strong>Power supply 12 V / 15 W:</strong> Vsupply of Timbwolf servers of the model series 3xx, 9xx and 3500, also in connection with Professional Busmaster and VOC sensors.<br /> <a href="https://shop.elabnet.de/en/timberwolfserver/accessories/power-supply-unit-12v-for-timberwolf-server-and-professional-busmaster-mean-well_897_2450" target="_blank">Art: 588: Power supply 12 V / 15 W for TWS, PBM, VOC</a></li></ul> <h2><span style="font-size:18px;"><span style="color:#0D47A1;">Timberwolf USB Backup Stick 128 GB</span></span></h2> <p>USB stick for backing up the Timberwolf server to an external data storage device. The stick can be plugged in and removed during operation and can also be used on several Timberwolf servers (any model, any version). This Timberwolf backup stick can also be used to migrate the configuration including data to another Timberwolf server in case of replacement.</p> <p><u>Note:</u> A firmware from V 3.4 (or higher) is required on the Timberwolf server for use</p> <ul> <li><strong>Timberwolf USB Backup Stick 128 GB:</strong> Plug directly into the USB port of the Timberwolf server (or suitable USB hub) for operation. This Timberwolf USB backup stick is automatically recognized by the Timberwolf server as a backup medium.<br /> <a href="https://shop.elabnet.de/en/timberwolfserver/accessories/usb-stick-for-backup-timberwolf-server_896_2449" target="_blank">Art: 589: USB Stick 128 GB for Timberwolf Server Backup</a></li></ul> <h2><span style="font-size:18px;"><span style="color:#0D47A1;">1-Wire Professional bus master (up to 3 channels)</span></span></h2> <p>For more extensive installations with additional 1-Wire channels, you can expand the Timberwolf server with a Professional Busmaster. Depending on the expansion stage (activations of the channels), this allows an additional 200 1-Wire slaves. The extension with several Professional Busmasters ( PBM ) is possible.</p> <p>The Professional Busmasters, like all extensions, are automatically recognized and integrated. The 1-Wire sensors and actuators from our company are also automatically recognized and integrated. The commissioning of an installation of dozens to hundreds of sensors is thus very simple. The values of the sensors are automatically recorded in time series from the moment they are recognized, you only have to determine the further destinations (to KNX, Modbus, MQTT, Rest-API, logic etc.) with a few clicks.</p> <p><u>Note:</u> The Professional Busmaster can only be used on the Timberwolf Server 3500 with a USB hub. The Timberwolf Server firmware from V 3.2 is required for use.</p> <ul> <li><strong>1-Wire Professional bus master (expansion version): </strong>The 1-Wire PBM is a multi-bus master for digital 1-Wire sensor networks. Each channel provides a RS-485 bus, via which the Timberwolf server provides a complete Modbus universe with full address range. Several such Modbus Extensions can be connected.</p> <p>The channels are - also among each other - double galvanically isolated, up to 248 Modbus devices can be connected per channel (depending on the bus load of the individual devices). The termination is effected by DIP switches, the transmission speed can be set from 1200 to 115200 baud, the range is up to 1200 m, extension with repeaters is possible.</p> <p>For the list of supported communication parameters, function codes, binary coding, byte sequences, data types, value handling etc. please read either under the technical data for Modbus Extension or read about the <a href="https://wiki.timberwolf.io/modbus-funktionen" target="_blank">Modbus Funktionen im Timberwolf Wiki</a>.</p> <p>The Dual Isolated Modbus Extension is, like all our extensions, automatically detected and integrated. You set the termination via DIP switches, all other parameters you set up via corresponding graphical wizards on the Timberwolf server. The number of supported universes, Modbus devices or registers is not artificially limited. All Modbus data points can be linked arbitrarily with the data points of all other devices (independent of the technology).</p> <p><u>Note:</u> The Timberwolf Server firmware from V 3.2 is required for use</p> <ul> <li><strong>Dual Isolated Modbus Extension:</strong> Two independent Modbus RTU channels with galvanic isolation for use with Timberwolf Server.<br /> <a href="https://shop.elabnet.de/en/timberwolfserver/timberwolf-server-extensions/isolated-dual-modbus-rtu-extension_865_2388" target="_blank">Art: 500: Dual Isolated Modbus Extension</a></li></ul> <p> </p> <h2><span style="font-size:18px;"><span style="color:#0D47A1;">KNX bus coupler TP-UART Pro</span></span></h2> <p>This Timberwolf server is equipped with a KNX-TP connection. Hereby the application can be mapped with up to 8.000 objects, 25 KNXnet/IP tunnels can be provided and in parallel a logging of all telegrams can be done in "virtual bus monitor mode".</p> <p>It is possible to extend this Timberwolf server by further KNX-TP connections by connecting one or more KNX bus couplers TP-UART Pro. Via such additional bus couplers a logging in "real bus monitor mode" is done automatically. This is especially suitable to record the bus traffic on further lines.</p> <p><u>Note:</u> The Timberwolf Server firmware from V 3.2 is required for use</p> <ul> <li><strong>KNX bus coupling unit TP-UART Pro 25T:</strong> Additional KNX-TP connection for telegram recording of another KNX-TP line.<br /> <a href="https://shop.elabnet.de/en/timberwolfserver/timberwolf-server-extensions/knx-bus-coupling-unit-tp-uart-pro-25t-for-timberwolf-server_886_2427" target="_blank">Art: 675: KNX Busankoppler TP-UART Pro 25T</a></li></ul> <p> </p> <h2><span style="font-size:18px;"><span style="color:#0D47A1;">1-Wire sensors and actuators</span></span></h2> <p>ALL 1-Wire sensors and 1-Wire actuators offered by us can be connected to this Timberwolf server. The connection can be made to the internal standard bus master as well as to one (or more) professional bus masters connected via USB. Both busmasters and sensors / actuators from our company are automatically recognized and integrated into the system.</p> <p>With the Timberwolf Server and 1-Wire sensors / actuators, a sensor network with recording, visualization and forwarding of the measured values can be set up with very little effort. Simply connect the sensors in parallel to one line and connect them to the 1-Wire port of this Timberwolf Server (or to Professional Busmasters connected via USB). The sensors are automatically recognized and the recording of all values is started. The settings for intervals etc. can be easily adjusted via a graphical user interface.</p> <ul> <li><strong>1-Wire sensors and actuators:</strong> All 1-Wire devices from our delivery program are compatible with this Timberwolf server and are automatically recognized and integrated.<br /> <a href="https://shop.elabnet.de/en/1-wire" target="_blank">1-Wire Sensoren und Aktoren aus unserem Lieferprogramm</a></li></ul> <ul> <li> </li></ul> <ul> <li> </li></ul>
